About Me.
Ailsa Smith is a sound designer passionate about bringing worlds to life through audio. They hold a Bachelor's degree in Music Technology from Keele University and have completed a Post-Production Sound for Film, Games, and TV industry course at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (ICMP) in London.
Despite being an already avid gamer, drawn to cozy indie titles like Stardew Valley and Tiny Bookshop and turn-based strategy games like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Persona 5, it was this post-production course that reshaped their career path, inspiring them to pursue sound design for video games.
Now undertaking a Master’s degree in Sound Design for Video Games with Thinkspace Education, Ailsa continues to refine their skills through sound redesign projects, industry software exploration, and engagement with game audio communities such as Into Games, AirWiggles, and Discord servers. Their goal is to absorb the knowledge and creativity of these spaces and establish themselves as a skilled and versatile sound designer.
The name Sugarbird originated as a playful nickname from a typo, but has since come to represent the calming and melodic qualities found in their approach to sound.
